Thats what I was fervently pondering. (Can one ponder fervently? hmm. saving thay for later) But, yep, thats what I was thinking, ” can I actually pull this off?” Our world had taken on a n entirely different orbit since my husband , at age 45 had suffered a stroke.
I was suddenly thrust into the nightmare that one faces when catastrophic hospital bills begin to mount up.
Our meager savings was gone and I was in panic mode- trying to figure out what I could possibly do to earn money in foreign country, while caring for my mate who was bedridden.
Things were bleak, to say the very least.
I had a computer, an old laptop- an older smartphone, and and internet connection for 6 months to come. There had to be SOMETHING I could do.
I started researching “work online” and “remote work” and learned thar in fact, this was a thing!
Ugh. However, after only a few hours googling I realized that I had entered a mine field of evil scams and rip offs.
I lay down that night and cried for real.
Having no choice in the matter, though I did perservere. I researched 5 to 6 hours a day, joining obscure forums and facebook groups galore. I signed up and signed in to every doggone thang that even smelled like might make me a buck or two using the resources I had.
After a few weeks , well, basically NOTHING had happened. I was still broke and getting weary of eating pinto beans.
It seemed like the only ootions were the dreaded affiliate marketing and commission-only jobs were my only options. And please realize that I couldnt sell bacon to a hungry pig if my life depended upon it. Bleak indeed.
Id seen jobs advertised online, but they all wanted a resume & my resume was 21 years old, ha, still printed on actual paper……
I had no choice really and so I kept researching and signing up. About 6 months into these sweaty nights of poring over my monitor, I began to get emails…..ding,ding,ding…lots of emailed responses to my efforts.
Two months after that, I got my first job offer!
Finally, I had an income that allowed me to take care of my husband, pay for his many prescriptions and keep food on the table.
Three months after that, I got a better offer and took it. Now I could pay the bills AND eat a couple of times a day! YAY!Go DEEDEE.
Slowly things have certainly improved, but having worked for 21 years as a missionary in foreign countries, I just didnt feel so great about no longer being able to help other people on a regular basis. So here we are! I’ve started this site in hopes of sharing what I learned, because I KNOW other women and men out there are facing the same challenges that ALMOST swept me under last year.
